Decoction is needed with roots, barks, and woody material. A decoction is performed by boiling your barks and roots for several minutes in order to break down the fibrous material.
Fill your tea kettle/pot with water and place it on the stove over high heat and wait for it to boil.
While your water is heating up, pick out the roots and barks you would like to add to your mix. A good rule of thumb is to only have 2 tsp of material per cup of water, but feel to adjust the amount to your taste.
Add your roots and barks to the boiling water. Allow the woody material to simmer for at least 20 minutes.
Once your decoction is finished you can infuse your tea by pouring the water over your herbs, through an infuser and into the tea cup. Or, just leave it as is.
Your tea is now finished! Add a dash of honey or drink it plain and enjoy the benefits that herbal teas bring.
